Jackie Cory presented the program of embroidery stitching with silk ribbons. She taught Decorative Spider Web Rose, Loop Flower Stitch, Ribbon Stitch/Japanese Rice. The majority of members had never practiced silk ribbon embroidery before, it was a great learning experience. Members left excited to use the technique .

Don’t forget  to submit your 4-patch to the Mall Show by or before August 1

July GT meeting

This Thursday the 23rd is our scheduled July meeting of GreatFul Threads. It's hard to believe that we only have 4 more meetings left in this year. We have to make the most of them!

Jackie Cory will have the program on decorative stitches. She is asking for you to bring in any decorative stitch work you might have as well as any books on decorative stitches. Also bring in an embroidery needle or a chenille needle (size 20 or up to size 24). I have been using a sashiko needle lately and am finding it quite useful. If you still have the ribbon floss I shared several months back bring that if not, we will have some to share. A small embroidery hoop would prove useful but is not a necessity. Jackie has cut small fabric practice squares.

If you have finished your memory box from last month bring it and your show and tell.

June meeting update

Ladies,

Good news and bad news. Good news is we had a fantastic time making our memory boxes at the June meeting. Thank you Jackie.  Bad news is, I was having such a great time I completely forgot to take pics!!!  I have never claimed to be great at multi-tasking. In fact, I am currently practicing mindfulness, which is the opposite of multi-tasking!  So, if those who attended would like to send me a pic of your box, finished or unfinished, I will put it on the blog.  You can send it to my email or text it.

We had little business to conduct at the meeting. Bill showed us the latest Q20. If you are thinking about a mid-arm, do check it out. It is easy to quilt on and easy to work on. It comes with it's own set of tools, you will be able to make your own adjustments.

Thanks to Pennie Layne for supplying the art give away for June. I am proud to say I won it, pic below, and am most happy to have done so. I will be supplying the give away for July and am working on it now..hint, I am into handwork lately.

There is a slight change in our program for July. Due to Kim beginning a new job, congrats to her, she cannot be in charge of the program. Jackie took on the task with help from Vista and myself. We will be demonstrating Hand Stitching: Embroidery, Decorative and Functional. Sounds like fun, eh?

June GT meeting

Thursday, June 25 will be the next GreatFul Threads meeting. Jackie Cory has the program and we will be making  memory boxes. Bring a small box, 4" X 4"approximately, along with the following supplies:

Elmer's glue
decorative paper, personal pics, or magazine pics
small bits of fabric
modge podge
paint brushes or foam brushes (nothing expensive)
small mementos, jewelry, beads, goodies to attach to your box

Remember to bring Show 'N Tell and the project you made with last months reverse applique technique.

GreatFul Threads May 2015 Meeting Recap

Nine members and one guest were present for the May GT meeting. The guest was Penny Lane brought by Susan Cooper.

Sandi Suggs will be teaching four classes during September's AQS show in Chattanooga this year. All members are encouraged to enter a quilt in the exhibit that Sandi is putting together at the Mall. It is a juried exhibit with the theme of "4-Patch". If you did not receive an email invite with rules to submit a quilt, please contact Sandi and one will be forwarded to you.

Bird Challenge due in October, size 30" X 36".

Box project will be the June program, Jackie Cory is in charge. Bring any size small box with ephemera/found objects to permanently attach.

We now have business size cards with GT info for members to hand out. The cards include our meeting time and location so that perspective members can have a permanent reminder of our group.

Visitor, Penny Lane, won our drawing for the month. See the pic below of Miriam Duncan's beautiful necklace made with alcohol inks and Modge Podge Dimensional Magic. Because Penny won this months she is expected to make the give away for June.

The video will last 9 minutes and 18 seconds. Pokey Bolton from Quilting Arts is the interviewer. At the beginning it says this is Chapter 2. She begins with five samples of fabric.

Do not forget to bring any projects you have finished or are working on for Show 'N Tell.  Also bring your project from the March program on using snippets of fabric.

A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words

Thanks to Karen, Delores, and June for attending  CDM Saturday for the Plushie program. The children designed the toys on paper. Our group, along with more volunteers, helped them cut, sew and stuff.You will see in the pics how adorable they turned out. June was telling me how proud the children were of their completed projects. Thanks to Delores and Karen Dewhirst for taking the pics.

At our June GT meeting we will be making  multi media wood blocks with Jackie. You should be collecting your found/personal  items that will be permanently applied. You can use a wood block or a cardboard box, any size or shape you want, it does not have to be square.

Kim Callaway found 3 1/2" wood blocks at Target. There are 6 in the bag and they are on sale for $11.00. She's happy to divide the cost and share. The first five who contact her will be the lucky ones, her email is jester@epbfi.com.

This month our meeting will be during the last week on the 28th. Catherine will be in charge of the program.
