Recap of May meeting

During the May 22 meeting of GreatFul Threads, Liza Blair, from Arts Build (formerly Allied Arts) explained a grant that is available to groups such as ours. A maximum of $3,000/group is available for buildings arts within the group and the community. The application is due this Fall. In the meantime, members will research ways we could best utilize the funds.

Bill  Klingensmith, our meeting place host, said several alteration shops in the area are looking for help; if anyone is interested contact Bill for more info. He is in need of quilts to hang in the background of his booth during the upcoming AQS show. What a wonderful way for our quilts to be hanging at the show as well as making sure Bill has an outstanding and attractive booth. Be thinking about which of your quilts (with or without sleeves) you would like to loan him. Bill is looking for several people to work his booth during the show and someone to give classes in the store. The store will soon receive  Riley Blake wide backs and wide back batiks.

The following pics are a combination of the evening's program techniques and show 'n tell. If you were not at the meeting and need a technique for June, send me an email and I will be glad to do that for you. Also, if you have an idea for how we could best utilize the grant money, let me know.

We will meet earlier in the day for the June meeting in order to assemble the CDM quilt blocks. The work session  will be on the regularly scheduled day, June 26, 3:00 p.m. with the meeting to follow at 6:00.

Take time to create,

Denise

May Meeting

Thursday, May 22, is the date of GreatFul Threads next meeting. Top of the agenda is the CDM quilt project. The blocks are completed and it's time to set them together. In this blog you will see the pics we took Saturday during our last session with the children. Thank you to everyone who has participated up to this point. A big thank you to Sandi Suggs and the Piecemaker Bee who stepped in to give us a much needed hand.

Looking forward to seeing what everyone has created with their technique for the month. Mine is my head but will be in my hand Thursday eve!  It's never too late to create. Don't forget to bring your show 'n tell.

See you Thursday evening, 6:00 at Bernina Sew and Quilt Studio, 5950 Shallowford Rd.

Saturday # 3 at the Children's Discovery Museum

Thanks to Delores Dady for heading up the crew to work our 3rd Saturday at the CDM.  We appreciate Kim Callaway, Melissa Klingensmith and Karen Sperry for taking time to go. It was another successful day of making blocks for the two quilts that will hang in the museum during Chattanooga's AQS month of September. Thanks also to Delores for taking the pics, gratification smiles on the girls faces is its own reward!

This Saturday, the 10th, is our final day at the museum, then we will begin to assemble our quilts. Those on the schedule to go are Sharon Griffith, Josie Dinwiddie, Phyllis Godschall, Susan Dodd, Sandi Suggs, Carol Hooper, and myself. Pat yourself on the back because it looks as if we had the perfect # of kits made up for this project, that's what I call great teamwork. A big thanks to each of you.

We still have 2 weeks until our May GreatFul Threads meeting. Have fun working up your technique and if you need me to pull two from the basket, send me a text or email. We do not have flower pounding in the list of techniques, but if you are in the mood, this is the time to do it!

Take time to create,

Denise
