GreatFul Threads October meeting re-cap

Thanks to all who attended the final GreatFul Threads meeting of 2015. We had a full house of members with three guest present.

Jackie Cory shared that she had won two blue ribbons at the Common Threads Quilt Show in Cleveland. Delores Dady had a Michael Miller Challenge quilt accepted to the upcoming Quilt Con in Pasadena. Hats off to those two exceptional quilters.

Leader for 2016 will be Jackie Cory with Karen Sperry in charge of programs. Karen will also send notices about upcoming meetings. The new January meeting time will be 3:00 - 5:00 on the fourth Thursday of months January thru October.

Kim Callaway won the monthly art give away made by Jackie (see pic below). Kim will make the give away for the 2016 January meeting.

The 2015 Bird Challenge quilts were exceptional. There was a great number of entries with some still in progress. See pics below.

Melissa Klingensmith had the program which was inspired by Irena Bluhm's book, "Quilts of a Different Color". The water color activator she used is 70% Jo Sonja's Textile Medium (Melissa substituted this for Americana Textile Medium), 20% Delta Ceramcoat Textile Medium and 10% Versatex Fixer. Members are encouraged to bring your finished piece to the January 2016 meeting.

I hope everyone has a blessed upcoming holiday season. See you in January. If you have any pics or news to share send it and I will post it on the blog.

October GreatFul Threads meeting

Fiber Artist,

Thursday, October 22, will be our last meeting for 2015. If you know where the year went please let me know so I can find it! It's been a good fiber year, look back at the pics on this blog to refresh your memory of all the wonderful art you (we) have made.

Melissa Klingensmith has the program for our October meeting. She has requested that you bring watercolor pencils and paint brushes. A one inch brush will come in handy along with very small sizes. If you do not have these supplies, do not purchase them,  those who have them will be happy to share. You might also want to bring a small container for paintbrush water and a rag to clean your brush off with.

Bring your ideas for 2016 programs. Your new leader, Jackie Cory, and her program coordinator, Karen Sperry, will be eager to begin planning for next year. Some fantastic program ideas were thrown out at the last meeting and they will want to get them on the calendar. I am eager to do one on Hopscotch, Danglers, and Tic- Tac- Toe, techniques I learned while taking a Dianne Hire class at AQS. Jackie has some great ideas to inspire our group; the grass will not grow under your feet with her at the helm!

You have one week to finish up your 2015 Bird Challenge. Bring it along with your recent Show 'N Tell.

See you 6:00 Thursday,

Denise

Re-cap of August meeting

Thanks to Karen Young for an excellent program on Photo Transfers. Karen showed examples of several techniques she has used. Her directions  made it simple enough to take our fright out of the process! Quilters are visual people, once we see, we can do.  Two of the products used are 606 Spray and Fix adhesive and TAP (Transfer Artist Paper)  with Leslie Riley, both are available at the Bernina Shop.

There is a new bead shop in downtown Chattanooga located at 400 E. Main Street called Bead Therapy suite 210-A, located across from the ChooChoo. Susan Council is the proprietor.

Diane Rose, The Blind Quilter, will be in the Chattanooga area soon, Look her up online and begin to save your scrap fabrics and thread, which she collects to maker her projects.

Be sure to volunteer on the sign up site for the AQS show, coming Sept. 16-19.

GT "Bird Challenge" due at October meeting.

See you next month,

Denise
