Thanks to those in attendance for another excellent meeting of GreatFul Threads. Once again the Arts Build grant was discussed. The group is concerned about adding extra workload to those who are already extremely busy, especially with AQS show preparations. Jackie Cory thought it would be wonderful to use the grant money (if it was awarded to us) to purchase a permanent display case that would show members art quilts that could be switched out on a regular basis. The cabinet would be placed in a high traffic public area.

We need to know from each member how many art quilts they will submit to be hung at the CDM during the month of September. We need to know how many and the size of each one so that preparations can be made to hang them. Let me know that a.s.a.p. so that I can forward that info to Liza Blair at the CDM.

Jackie Cory will be teaching a basic drawing class the 4th Saturday of each month for the next four months. The class will be at her house in Cleveland (off exit 20 and easy to get to) from 10:00 – 1:00. The first class begins this Saturday and  it's not too late to sign up. Jackie’s phone # is 423.432.2510.  Another series of classes will begin in January.

Jackie and Catherine Price will have a booth at Merchants Warehouse on E. Brainerd for the next four months. Merchants Warehouse is near the intersection of Graysville Rd. and E. Brainerd, hours are 10:00 – 6:00 Monday thru Saturday.  This is a store that carries handmade, local goods. It’s a great store, check it out!

Reflections Gallery will be holding a display on “Literacy”, deadline to enter is August 7. The theme revolves around words, books, etc. Jackie will be offering a book making class there. Details have not been finalized, stay tuned for further information.

For those who were not at the meeting and would like me to pull techniques for next month’s program, please send an email.

Take time to quilt everyday,

Denise

June 2014 Meeting

We had a great meeting on Thursday June 26.  We met early to work on putting together the Quilt the kids at the Childrens Creative Discovery Center were making in conjunction with our group.  We met many times during the spring to teach the kids some sewing skills and to get them interested in quilting. We also had our monthly meeting afterwards. We had a fun time and got a lot accomplished.  I was asked to photograph the meeting and upload it. Sorry for the delay. I normally used Flickr to upload to Blogger but for some reason they took away that feature.

Enjoy!
